Having consoled her former make-believe husband, Kangin last week, actress Lee Yoon JiJung Yunho.

Lee Yoon Ji has not been feeling great lately because of the consistent single digit ratings that her drama, Heading to the Ground has been getting. It pains her heart when she meets her fellow cast members and the production staff everyday at the filming site.

In particularly, Lee Yoon Ji showed her warm heart by consoling Yunho who has been the target of criticisms over his raw acting, "I hope that he forgets the criticisms as quickly as possible. 10 episodes have already been shown on tv and that's more than half of the scheduled 16. After watching episode 9, I felt that Yunho's acting has improved all of a sudden, so I gave him a call to encourage him. I also told Yunho that the remainder of the episodes will be over in a blink of a eye and made a promise with him that he must complete the series without any regrets and give it his best shot."



Yoon Ji added, "Yunho has really put in a lot of effort for this drama. He is so into his role that I am worried that he might suffer withdrawal symptoms once the drama is over."

Lee Yoon Ji's previous dramas have always done well in the ratings but even though this is the first time that she is facing this ratings slump, she is cool about it. She said, "I have done morning dramas, Mon-Tue dramas, weekend dramas and now Wed-Thus dramas, etc. So I am feeling pretty cool that I have done them all before. Even though this might appear to be a setback for me, I believe that this is just a good learning experience for me."

Heading to the Ground airs every Wednesday, Thursday through MBC.

Viewers are apparently unhappy with the recent events of MBC’s Heading to the Ground The drama is now halfway through, and despite the soccer theme, the story shifted abruptly in Episode 5 to center around a mental ward, after Bong-kun (Yunho) suffered an accident. He had been saving Hae-bin (Go Ara) from falling into the Han River, and ended up in the hospital with amnesia.

This week, he finally recovered his memory and escaped the hospital, where a fire had broken out. He risked himself to rescue a fellow patient who had been a support to him during his stay.

As a result, viewers are voicing their complaints about the drama’s choppy plotting and the lack of connection to the previous story. Some point out that the story of Bong-kun being locked up in the hospital dragged on too long (”The Bong-kun who dreams of soccer disappeared, and we got a Bong-kun who dreams of escaping a mental hospital… it’s so improbable”).

Another comment complained, “I thought we were getting a soccer drama but that wasn’t it, then I thought it was a romance drama but that wasn’t it, then it turned into a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest or Papillon drama, but finally it turns out that it’s a fantasy drama where you hit the wall once and the hospital collapses.”

Of course there are some who defend the latest storyline, saying it was touching to see Bong-kun saving his fellow patient-captive and showing some maturity in overcoming adversity. Unfortunately for the drama, it’s still languishing in the bottom of the Wednesday-Thursday ratings; its last episode pulled in a 5.1% against Swallow the Sun’s 18.8% finale and My Fair Lady’s 14.1%. Perhaps they’ll do better since one of those is now over and SBS’s new drama You’re Beautiful kicks in next week.

Tohoshinki is said to have 800,000 to 1,000,000 members in their fanclub "Cassiopeia." Yunho, one of Tohoshinki's members, is now challenging for his first drama, "Heading to the Ground." At the start, the program's ratings were rather low, but it seems to be gradually increasing. Since Tohoshinki is very popular in Japan, and one of the members is starring in the drama, we believe that it will be aired in Japan; and so we focused on its title.

Just for the time being, the Japanese title of the drama is translated to "Jimen ni Heading" (T/N: Heading to the Ground) from the original "Maen Ttang e Heading." But some of the Japanese media are stating the title as "Do One's Best."

Let's verify the above Hangul alphabets:
[Maen] means "nothing"
[Ttang] means "earth" or "ground"
[e] means the particle "to"
So, if we translate it literally, it means "Heading to the Ground." And if we use this as the title, it will sound odd.

This phrase is often used in Korea, and it means "All efforts came to nothing" or "Reckless faith." And there is one more meaning: "Challenge to the impossible."

Especially in Korea, where the triumph spirits are high, it seems that the phrase is mainly used by the latter meaning. There is even a book published with the title "23 Years Old. Challenge to the Impossible" by Yung Su-yong. This was a study-abroad essay written by a Korean girl, studying in Australia, who couldn't speak English.

This time, Cha Bong-Goon (Yunho) is aiming to be the Korean soccer representative from a soccer team that was dissolved. So we think that the correct title of the drama should be the same as that of the book introduced above. Thus, the title should not be "Do One's Best," but rather, it should be with a bit of a stronger nuance which shows the challenging spirits. We are interested whether or not the title will be changed when the drama is aired in Japan.
